The movie takes place in the notorious town of Amityville, Long Island, but nothing about it is reminiscent of the other movies, which some reviews say they disliked about the movie as it didn't have the same "feel" as the older films. The film had poor ratings, with only 9% liking it on Rotten Tomatoes, and receiving a 3.1/10 on IMDb.
